Free Pattern: Easy Pom pom scarf for babies

Yarns:

Aran wool weight in two colours 50g balls

Tension:

20 sts and 28 rows to 4in/10cm square

Needles:

4mm (US6,UK8) needles

Also you need two buttons and darning needle

Size is for up to 18 month old baby

Knit in two sections:

First section: Cast on 14 sts

Work in carter sts for 67 rows or work measures around 25 cm

BUTTONHOLE ROW 1: k3, cast off 2, K4, cast off 2, k3

BUTTONHOLE ROW 2: k3, turn work, cast on 2, turn work, k4, turn work, cast on 2, turn work, k3

Narrow end:

DECREASE ROW: k1, k2tog, knit to last 3sts, k2tog, k1 (12sts)

NEXT 2 ROWS: knit

repeat these three rows until 2sts left

knit one more row and then cast off.

 

Second section:

cast on 14 sts

work in garter st for 48 rows or until work measures around 20cm

Narrow end:

DECREASE ROW: k1, k2tog, knit until last 3sts, k2tog, k1 (12sts

NEXT 2 ROWS: knit

reapeat these three rows until 2sts left

knit one more row and then cast off

Making up:

Sew the cast-on edge of the shorter piece to the side of the longer piece using mattress stitch so the work creates an L-Shape. Make pom poms ( tutorial here!)  and attach them to each pointy end. Sew on buttons securely and weave in your ends.
