Beginner's Crochet: How to crochet Geranium flowers?

Posted by Ann Petrov on

Geranium flowers are very cute and corky flowers to make. There is small bit of technique in it to make the perfect petal but nothing too complicated. It is more intermediate flower but still easy enough to beginners to follow. It holds great shape and would work perfectly as decorative for many designs.

Geranium are widely known garden flowers, and they come nearly any shape, colour and size you can imagine. Perfect summer flowers they are well known.

These flowers are usually made in three colours, first 2 rows in one and other two in two different colours. There is special stitch in it and I highly recommend that if the method is very confusing, to watch video below.

  • 4 ply cotton wool
  • 2.5mm or 3mm crochet hook

Row 1: chain (ch) 5 and make slips stitch (ss) to first ch to form a ring

Row 2: ch 1 (counts as first single crochet), 7 single crochets (sc) to the ring, ss to the ch 1.

Row 3: ch 2 (counts as first half double crochet), make 1 half double crochet (hdbl) to the same stitch, *ch 2, make 2 hdbl into next stitch, repeat from the * 6 more times, ss to top of ch 2. Fasten off if using different colours.

Row 4: Add the last colour to ch 2 space, or ss to ch 2 space, *ch 2, make popcorn (make 4 triple crochet, take a hook out at top of the last triple and insert hook under the first triple and then through the 4th triple loop, yarn over hook, and pull it through), ch 2 and ss to ch space, repeat from * 7 more times, fasten off invisible.
